SAKOR Technologies developed a belt noise test stand for Ford Motor Company to meet new SAE specifications for belt noise in vehicles front-end accessory drive applications. The system uses a high-speed AC dynamometer system to simulate the engine, allowing testing in a clean laboratory environment without the need for the fuel, cooling and fire suppression systems. The dynamometer precisely simulates a number of major contributors to engine belt noise, including torque pulses from the engine firing, a thermal chamber and a water mist system simulating environmental conditions, simulated misalignment and/or tilt to the pulleys, and axial and angular belt misalignment.
